Lake Region Championship: Gangu, Obama and St. Noah battle for title

With less than two months left to close the current league season, the battle for the Lake Region Championship title has entered an intense final stretch.
Heading into this weekend’s matches, Gangu FC and Obama FC are the frontrunners, and they are tied on points. Both teams are sitting on 45 points each, though Gangu has two more matches in hand. Obama has played 22 matches and Gangu 20. Gangu is also ahead with two goals in terms of goal differences.
But even the frontrunners cannot be sure of lifting the trophy at this time. For Gangu, maintaining its thin lead is neither enough nor easy.
St. Noah FC and Boca Junior FC, in third and fourth place, respectively, are putting intense pressure on the frontrunners. St. Noah has accumulated 44 points, putting it just one step behind the leaders. Boca has 40 points. Both St. Noah and Boca have played 22 matches. Completing the top five list is Young Lions FC with 35 points out of 23 matches.
Aside from the league title fight, there is a parallel battle for another component of the season’s glory: the Golden Boot. Obama has a lethal striker named Levis Baraza, who has scored 13 goals this season to rank top on the scorers list. Stephen Okelo from Legends FC ranks second with 7 goals. John Otieno from Boca and Young Lions’ Peter Ogola Palmer are tied in third place with 5 goals each.
With the league’s frontrunners locked in a tight race and the chasing pack not too far behind, predicting the season’s champion is not easy. In the chase for the golden boot, however, Baraza’s lead looks safe, at least for now, as he has almost twice as many goals as the next competitor.
The Lake Region Championship soccer league features clubs from Alego-Usonga and Bondo constituencies. The competition began in 2024 with 10 clubs and has since expanded to 14.
