Silas Owiti Oduor, the bishop of the Christ Glory Centre Ministry that runs Yogo and Seje academies, was in Nairobi last month to meet a community of West Alego in the city. Mr. Owiti plans to run for the West Alego MCA seat in 2027.

The evening meeting was held at the Jam Rescue hotel on Jogoo Road on March 9. The meeting drew 60 people, said Joseph Omondi, an associate of the bishop who organised the gathering.

Mr. Owiti used the platform to pitch his political message to West Alego professionals in the city, counting on their backing to influence favourable public opinion back home. The outreach showed the bishop’s willingness to try manoeuvres rarely used in local politics to grow his profile.

Mr. Owiti discussed leadership and development, urging the professionals to invest back home to build the local economy.

When the bishop shared about his Nairobi meeting on social media, many chimed in with comments or questions. Sam Opondo, the immediate former Kuppet boss in Siaya county, asked whether the people at the meeting vote in West Alego.

In a swift defence, the bishop replied that “these are authentic and legitimate West Alego voters.” Mr. Opondo rested his case.

Days after the meeting, some members of the West Alego community in Nairobi began talking about switching their votes from the city to the village.
