The posting of Noah Logwatale as the Siaya West DCC is the most significant step so far to make Siaya West sub-county operational.
Siaya West sub-county was created in 2024. It was carved out of the original Siaya sub-county, which has its headquarters in Siaya town. Siaya West has its headquarters in Uranga.
Siaya West is basically the old Uranga division upgraded to a sub-county. It covers the same geographical area. But unlike the old division, the sub-county has more administrative units. It features two divisions, six locations, and 14 sub-locations.
The divisions are Uranga and Usonga. These have boundaries that correspond to the current West Alego and Usonga wards.
The Uranga division hosts four locations: West Alego, North West Alego, South West Alego, and Central West Alego.
North West Alego and Central West Alego are newly created locations. North West Alego was carved out of the original West Alego location. It hosts Komenya-Kalaka and Komenya-Kowala sub-locations. The flagship West Alego location retained Kalkada-Uradi, Mahola-Ulawe, and Kodiere sub-locations.
Central West Alego was created from splitting the original South West Alego location. It hosts Gangu, Kaugagi-Hawinga, and Kaugagi-Udenda sub-locations. The original South West Alego location has Sigoma-Uranga and Kabura-Uhuyi sub-locations.
The Usonga division has two locations: Usonga and East Usonga. The Usonga location is made up of Sumba and Dibuoro sub-locations. Dibuoro is a newly created sub-location. East Usonga is a newly created location, and it is composed of Nyadorera “A” and Nyadorera “B” sub-locations.
The Usonga divisional headquarters could be located in Lunyu at the Usonga library site, an administrator told the Tribune.
Another administrator said there were plans to construct a sub-county headquarters complex in Uranga in the same compound where the divisional office currently sits.
The complex would host multiple offices, including the office of the deputy county commissioner, sub-county police commanders, and education officers.
